Assistant Farm Manager
Full time Merrowie Aggregation, Hillston NSWWould you like a genuine shot at running one of the most diverse aggregations on the Eastern Seaboard? Forget "solid." We're looking for someone who's ready for it.
Most "Assistant Manager" roles ask you to keep doing what you already know. This one is different.
Turn up with genuine ability, enthusiasm and real momentum in your career, and we'll invest in you accordingly: Training, responsibility, and a significant package that reflects your ceiling, not just your years in the role.
Merrowie Aggregation isn't a paddock or two, it's 33,000 hectares of genuinely mixed farming, located 18km out of Hillston. 11,000ha of arable country, 7,000ha under irrigation (2,350ha lateral move, 5,500ha surface furrow) growing cereal, pulse and fibre crops, 700ha Almonds, 22,000ha of grazing carrying 2,000 breeding ewes and 150 Angus cows.
Broadacre cropping, row crop irrigation, horticulture and livestock, all on one aggregation, the kind of breadth that normally takes three separate jobs to learn.
The Role
Merrowie Aggregation isn't a paddock or two, it's 33,000 hectares of genuinely mixed farming, located 18km out of Hillston. 11,000ha of arable country, 7,000ha under irrigation (2,350ha lateral move, 5,500ha surface furrow) growing cereal, pulse and fibre crops, 700ha of Almonds, and 22,000ha of grazing carrying 2,000 breeding ewes and 150 Angus cows.
Broadacre cropping, row crop irrigation, horticulture and livestock, all on one aggregation - the kind of breadth that normally takes three separate jobs to learn.
You'll work directly under the Aggregation Manager, who is highly skilled, easy to work with, and genuinely invested in developing the next generation of farm leadership. You'll be embedded in the real decisions: irrigation scheduling, crop programs, livestock, machinery, financial and people management.
This isn't a 2IC role where you watch from the sidelines. It's a structured development pathway with the intent of succession to Farm Manager as the ultimate destination. We're looking for someone with genuine experience already under their belt, but who's still early enough in their trajectory to grow into the top job over the coming years.
Twelve months from now, we expect you'll be running significant slices of the operation independently. Three years from now, you'll be across the whole aggregation and being remunerated accordingly.
What You'll Bring
- Solid hands-on experience in broadacre cropping and/or irrigation is essential. Livestock exposure is valued but won't carry the role on its own; cotton experience is highly regarded.
- Formal agricultural qualifications well regarded.
- Strong administrative capability, with the aptitude and understanding to build competence in budgeting, reporting, recording and the financial aspect of running a large-scale operation.
- The appetite to be mentored hard and fast, not just supervised.
- Sound judgement under pressure and comfort working independently in a remote setting.
- Ability to lead a dedicated team in a respectful and interactive manner is crucial.
Why This Time Is Different
This isn't "manage and hope," it's a genuine development seat with real mentorship and a defined destination. We're not looking to fill a gap; we're looking to invest properly, once, in the right person.
What's On Offer
CFM know exactly what they're after, and they're prepared to remunerate accordingly. If you're the standout candidate - sharp, relational, capable, and ready for more responsibility than your current title suggests - expect a package built to match:
- Excellent base remuneration
- A significant bonus structure related to farm profitability and performance
- Excellent on-farm accommodation
- A fully maintained vehicle
